Serum processing

The goat's blood is obtained under sedation.

Separation of the serum from the clot.

When the volume of the serum is less than 50% of the original blood volume, the clot is chopped up by a spatula in order to release more of the serum that was trapped in the clot. A 10min spin at 4500rpm at 20C will help the separation.

All serum is collected and spun at 4500rpm at 20C for 30 min and the supernatant is stored at 4C until ready for the next step.

Heat inactivation.

The serum is adjusted to room temperature before placed in a 56C water bath for 40min. Then the serum is allowed to cool at room temp for 30min and subsequently stored at 4C.
